Assorted ice bricks, The middle brick has two air pockets showing plus a thermal shock crack. It is unusual for our bricks to have air pockets. Air pockets like these occur when the block is harvested early and all the water is not fully frozen. The thermal fracture occurs when the ice block is placed on a warm surface or handled too soon after being removed from a freezer. To avoid thermal shock fractures simply leave the ice bricks at room temperature for 10 minutes or so, after delivery, or removing from a freezer. It is then perfectly safe to handle them.
